The landmark project will see iON’s email marketing software Subscribe integrate with Lagan’s CRM system to deliver an email, SMS and print marketing platform.

Brisbane is the largest city by area in the Southern Hemisphere and the City Council required a CRM system which will enable them to reach 1.05 million city residents by their chosen method of communication.

Lagan technology tracks citizen involvement and participation, monitoring all communications across the range of Government services, for example street lighting, planning, utilities and citizen complaints. However they required additional functionality for outbound communication.

By integrating with Subscribe, the Lagan CRM system will recognise the citizen’s chosen method of communication, either email, SMS or printed letter, and will execute these various communication types concurrently.

The first phase is due to go live in 2011 with completion set for the end of 2012.

The research and development partnership, worth almost £500,000, will combine iON’s email marketing platform Subscribe and Sonru’s video interviewing software to deliver an email marketing solution which is secure for customers whilst still retaining the core video functionality.

iON and Sonru will work together over the next 18-24 months to develop the software, which will cost £419,000 to complete.

Gareth Dunlop, iON MD said: “The InterTradeIreland support has allowed iON, along with our partner Sonru to bring forward product development plans that our customers and hot prospects were demanding, by about 12-18 months. As well as increasing our revenues in the short term as a direct result, it will ensure we are more competitive internationally in the medium term.”

Fergal O’Byrne, CEO of Sonru added: “Sonru are delighted to work with iON to develop innovations within the email and video space, made possible through the InterTradeIreland, Innova programme. Email was always known as the killer app and online video is now in the mainstream so any project that merges these two technologies is sure to bring commercial opportunity.”

InterTradeIreland’s Director of Programmes and Business Services, Margaret Hearty, said: “Developing and exploiting new ideas is critical to business success, particularly in the current climate. Companies need to innovate to survive and grow but many lack the resources to make it happen. InterTradeIreland’s Innova programme offers an attractive support package for those companies serious about R&D and the unique opportunity to tap into the wealth of expertise that exists across the island.”

Protean, a B2B marketing agency based in Reading, has been using Subscribe to send email broadcasts on behalf of their clients since March 2005 and required a customised feature for their campaign configuration.

Subscribe already accommodated an automated trigger email function based on a reader’s actions whereby a follow up email could be sent to a reader if they clicked on a particular link. A follow up email could also be sent to a reader who did not click on a particular link.

However Protean needed to enhance this functionality further and base the trigger emails not on a reader’s link interaction but on whether they opened the email newsletter or not. Subscribe developers customised the software to facilitate this and the system now automatically sends a second email if the reader does not open the e-shot or if it fails. This means that if your readers aren’t engaging with your first email, you’ve got a second chance to gain their attention.

Subscribe developers have released the latest version of the software to facilitate iON’s trip-advance system for hotels. trip-advance enables users to trigger an email based on a particular event. This is particularly useful for hotels wanting to send emails to specific subscribers before, during and after their stay.

The extractor function of the system integrates with the hotel’s property management software and pulls booking data such as name, email address, arrival date and departure date. After the data has been collected the exporter sends the data to Subscribe. This data is then stored in a trip-advance list which can be imported with duplicates to cater for guests who make multiple bookings at different times using the same email address.

The trip-advance system can be plugged into any hotel PMS. The data is then automatically extracted and sent to Subscribe whereby one or more trigger shots can be setup as required.

Subscribe client Beech Hill Country House in Derry has adapted the trip-advance system. They are now able to trigger a pre-stay email five days before a guest’s arrival, providing directions and information on booking activities during their stay. After the guest has checked out, another email is triggered thanking the customer for their stay with a link to review the hotel on Tripadvisor.

Subscribe V6.7 also incorporates several other new features including a heat map in the reports section to show the number of links clicked in a shot and the addition of icons in the shot list to differentiate the types of shots users can add.

This latest release comprises of additions to the XML Subsystem, which allows extra data to be added per subscriber besides the email, first and last name, which was previously support on the software. The XML Subsystem now dynamically creates fields to store the data in the same way as a CSV import does.

The new release has been used by The Jungle NI, an award-winning outdoor entertainment facility in Magherafelt. The Jungle required additional data fields for customers who book packages online, such as country, county, telephone and mobile numbers. Subscribe V6.6.4 enables The Jungle to use this data for follow-up marketing campaigns targeted by area, SMS and so on.
